I need to provide Platform Analytics access to a user who currently has only the snc_internal role.
- Which roles are required to grant Platform Analytics access?
- Do any of these roles require an additional paid license?
- What is the minimum role/licensing combination needed to provide access while keeping licensing costs low?
- If the user already has an SPM license, does that provide any advantage or entitlement for accessing Platform Analytics?
- Are there any recommended best practices for granting Platform Analytics access to SPM users?
Any guidance on roles, licensing implications, and the most cost-effective approach would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @riya_federa
OOTB:
Users with any role
Users with any role can create visualizations in dashboards that they have editing rights to. They need access to the data that they wish to display. They can add data visualizations that have been shared with them to their dashboards. In the Visualization Designer, they can bookmark or export such visualizations, and if a visualization has been shared with them with sharing rights, they can share it with other groups and users. Specific roles are needed to create or edit visualizations in the Visualization Designer.
Users with any role can create dashboards and share them with groups, users, and roles. If a data visualization has been shared with them, they can add this visualization to their dashboards from the library. These users can share a dashboard that has been shared with them if sharing rights were also granted. They can pass along editing rights if granted.

Hi @riya_federa
- Which roles are required to grant Platform Analytics access? ( Tanushree: "Users with any role can create visualizations in dashboards that they have editing rights to. Refer: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/platform-analytics-roles.html)
- Do any of these roles require an additional paid license? (Tanushree: "Without a paid Performance Analytics subscription, your use is limited to 180 days of data collection (five months for monthly indicators) and to specific indicators provided by ServiceNow, and you cannot activate Data snapshots. For unlimited access to all features, purchase a subscription to Performance Analytics." Refer : https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/performance-analytics/c_PremiumPerformanceAnalyti...)
- What is the minimum role/licensing combination needed to provide access while keeping licensing costs low? (Tanushree: In ServiceNow, Platform Analytics comes up with baseline feature. No specific analytics role is required to view shared Platform Analytics dashboards. Refer: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/pa-dashboard-roles.html ,https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/platform-analytics-roles.html )
- If the user already has an SPM license, does that provide any advantage or entitlement for accessing Platform Analytics? ( Tanushree : as per my knowledge, PA comes up as baseline feature. If you want to avail premium feature of PA , you need to purchase and activate Performance Analytics which is top layer of PA through a Professional or Enterprise offering. Refer: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/performance-analytics/c_PremiumPerformanceAnalyti... . Also if you purchased license for SPM ,it does not mean you are entitled for Performance Anallytics )
- Are there any recommended best practices for granting Platform Analytics access to SPM users ( check shared documentation)
As per Servicenow documentation-
Users with any role can create dashboards and share them with groups, users, and roles. These users can share a dashboard that has been shared with them if sharing rights were also granted. They can pass along editing rights if granted.
The dashboard_admin role allows a user to configure, edit, or delete any dashboards, regardless of ownership or editing rights. Certain configuration tasks also require dashboard_admin, as described in Configuring dashboards.
Tasks that integrate dashboards with Process Mining require the sn_process_optimization_analyst role. These tasks are listed in Configuring dashboards.
Users with the analytics_categories_admin role can create, edit, or delete dashboard categories.
For a full guide to roles connected to Platform Analytics dashboards, see Platform Analytics roles. "
