Platform Analytics and compatibility mode

I have a platform analytics dashboard that I want to add a text widget to. I understand the only way to get a text widget into platform analytics at the moment is to create the PA widget, add it to a dashboard, and migrate to platform analytics. So far so simple.

However, once it's in platform analytics I can't add it to the library for re-use on another dashboard which is a pain in the ass. Is there any way to add that to an existing dashboard by some technical wizardry or is it necessary to rebuild dashboards from the ground up any time you want to add a new widget of a type that's only supported in the core UI?

I saw some things coming by that rebuilding is the only 'normal' way to do it and that with some JSON wizardry it is possibly to put it on a dashboard in a hacky way. Unfortunately, I haven't yet been able to find the code that needs to be applied (and I have been looking).

Platform Analytics definitely isn't mature enough at the moment.

Yeah, I'll settle for "hacky" at the moment but nobody seems to know how to do it! We're determined to make platform analytics work for us but I've spent more time talking to our customer success partners about issues with it than is funny.

If your needs are simple it's great, if you want to do anything even vaguely clever you run into limitations left, right, and centre. I'm confident it's going to be an amazing product in 12 months time, but right now it alternates between amazing and feeling like pulling teeth depending on what I want to accomplish.
