Platform analytics Formula indicator to calculate previous month vs current month open incidents

Hi Team,

I am working on a platform analytics dashboard and would like to display the variation between the previous month's open incidents count and the current month's open incidents count in a bar chart.

My Requirement is 

Previous month open incidents-current month open incidents

Questions:

Has anyone implemented a similar requirement?

Could you please advise:

1.Which formula indicator method should be used

2.Are there any best practices for displaying this variation in a bar chart widget?
