One the biggest advantages to taking an in-platform approach to process mining is the speed at which you’ll be able to start getting visibility into the reality behind your workflows.

In a matter of minutes, you can have insights into your process inefficiencies, non-conformant activities, and improvement opportunities.

As an in-platform solution, ServiceNow Process Mining helps our customers avoid many of the data  access and availability challenges and data manipulation work that is typically part of a process mining project.  In some cases that data preparation work alone can take weeks.

Another advantage our customers have is they already have the skills to configure their first process model.  I like the say if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball (not so subtle reference to the classic film “Dodgeball”) - or more to the point, if you can author a report on the ServiceNow platform, you can create a visualized process map.

We are going to use the next couple of minutes to walk through the process of creating our first visualized process map with Process Mining.

In the Washington DC release we added a Guided Setup experience for Process Mining projects.  This recording is based on that new experience.

Now that you’ve seen how easy it is to get started finding opportunities to improve your workflows, you may be asking “what do I do next?”.

First, activate the necessary plugins.

There is the main Process Mining plugin.

There are also content packs for ITSM, CSM, HRSD and various other vertical solutions.  Be sure to enable the Process Mining content pack aligned to your workflow.

At this point you could use this video and be good to go, but we also recommend that you take the a look at this Guide to getting started with ServiceNow Process Mining post

Finally, sign up for the Process Mining Academy  These are monthly sessions where we cover best practices, product updates, answer in-platform process mining questions you may have, and collaborate with your peers about different use cases.

After all of that, if you still need some more inspiration about the types of questions Process Mining can help you answer about your workflows, check out our Process Mining Use Case Series.

Now you’re ready to go.

We look forward to hearing about the process inefficiencies you’re able to identify and improve upon, as well as the speed and productivity impact the improvements have on your business operations.

Merry mining!
