Business Process - Class, Category and Subcategory

Can someone help me understand what Category and Subcategory are used for on Business Processes in CMDB?

the Category and Subcategory fields in relation to CMDB are considered legacy ones.

Thank you! One additional question around Business Processes.  Looking at Install Status and Operational Status.  Looks like they flip to Installed and Operational and stay that way through each Life Cycle Stage, even End of Life.  Any idea why those wouldn't change?
