Asset ( Computer CI) Ci names all have the same as the model name - Is this right behaviour

Dear Experts,

Creating the Asset name(Computer CI) on the computer table through a third-party interface.

The interface runs, and the Cis all have the computer model name until they are imaged the first time.

Attached is the picture. Is this the right behavior? Because if the name has not changed, the De-duplication task will be generated for those duplicate names when the next discovery happens.

Please suggest.

Thanks

Prabhu

Hi Prabhu,

Looking at your picture, the Model ID can easily be the same as this should be for all Assets/ CI's of the same Model ID.

But Assets or CI's with the same name is what should not be the case as this makes it almost impossible to determine the individual Asset or CI. Yes, this determination can also be done using serial number or Asset tag or an other unique 'something' representing the individual Asset or CI but as the Asset/ CI name is frequently used in other processes as search criterium I always like to have unique names also.

Grtz,

Ed

Deduplication should be done based on a combination of name and Serial number and not just name. That should take care of this issue.
