Hi,
Does anybody know anything about the new Software Asset Management property in Zurich called 'Automatically create software model results for unlicensed products during software asset reconciliation
(com.snc.samp.unlicensed_smr_creation)'?
It is set to false as default, so the only software model results that are now created are for software models with entitlement. Does anybody know the reason for this change? I can not see any documentation about what is being achieved with this change of functionality.
Regards,
Gavin

Hi Dennis,
Thank you for taking the time to reply, and for the link to the documentation.
The link you sent discusses the automatic creation of software models for products that are either licensable or not licensable. We have used these options within SAM Pro for the last few releases, and they make perfect sense. What we are seeing in Zurich now, though, is a new property that focuses on the creation of the software model result, rather than the software model itself.
With the default setting of this new property, we observe that only software models with attached entitlements have software model results created during the reconciliation process. I have attached a screenshot that shows the behaviour we are seeing. In the screenshot, we can see that the product Acrobat is only listing the Pro software model, as this is the only software model with entitlement at the moment. We can see that the remaining installs are listed at the product level.
Since starting this reply, my colleague has found a page in the Zurich documentation that actually describes that this new property is "To prevent clutter in the Publisher details page". So we may have answered my own question.

Thanks as always for your help, Dennis.

Hi @Gavin Hughes ,
details can be found here - https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-it-asset-management/page/product/software-asset-manage...
This feature is related/focused on software portfolio managed based on Software model. A standard SAM program is interested in commercial licensable software to be tracked in the tool. This can be achieved by the other attribute, to generate models for licenable software based on discovery models.
the second option will also create all other software models based on existing discovery models (see link for details and rules). This will help the portfolio team to get an overview about all installed product from a grouped model view including all benefits of the content service and its normalization and lifecycle data.
Best, Dennis

@Gavin Hughes , thanks 🙏 I wasn’t aware of this feature and good to know when the first customer is asking about the reduction of results 😀🤷🏼♂️
it’s similar to this one, to keep the focus on your onboarded and managed products

Wednesday
No problem, Dennis.
Yeah, I like the published product feature. It makes a lot of sense.

Gavin
