SAM Foundation – Tanium Data, cmdb_ci_spkg, Discovery Models, and License Allocation

Hi All,

We are planning to activate Software Asset Management Foundation (SAMF) in our instance.
Currently, we have Tanium Asset integrated, which populates software data into:

  • cmdb_ci_spkg (software package)

  • cmdb_software_instance (software installs on devices)

We are not using ServiceNow Discovery.

I have a few questions related to what changes after SAMF activation:

  1. Will new software install data still flow into cmdb_ci_spkg, or only into cmdb_sam_sw_install?

    • If not, what happens to the historical data already present in cmdb_ci_spkg?

  2. Since our discovery source is Tanium, will SAMF still create Discovery Models (cmdb_sam_sw_discovery_model) from this data? Or are Discovery Models only created for ServiceNow Discovery data?

  3. Is license allocation automatic in SAMF once entitlements and software models are in place, or does this require SAM Professional?

  4. (Extra clarification) – If Tanium is the discovery source, do we need to do anything special to ensure the normalization process works, or is it handled the same as ServiceNow Discovery data?

Thanks in advance for clarifying these points!
