Software Entitlements (User/Device Allocation)

Hi, I have 2 questions:

  • Is there any OOB functionality where the SAM Entitlements (alm_entitlement_user / alm_entitlement_asset) records automatically gets initialized based on the Normalized Discovered Software Model & Software Installs? Based on the docs and hit & try, everything works fine but the only missing or manual part (I am may wrong) is - at the end these records has to be created manually against each Software Entitlements (Software Licenses).
  • What if we don't have any normalized rules defined and in all Software Install the normalization specific details is blank and normalized is FALSE, will it impact in recon and other calculations?

Thanks, Aditya

Hi,

From London version onward, ServiceNow gives us the flexibility for Importing Software Entitlements via module "Import Entitlements" available under Software asset Application menu which allows you to import all records at once rather than creating manually one by one. Please refer the link below for more information:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/london-software-asset-management/page/product/software-asset-mana...

For your second query, Normalization rules are normally defined only when you have a Custom Product, and ideally there won't be a scenario where all the Normalization fields in your software Installation table will be blank . Even if it is blank will suggest you to opt for Content Service setup to allow ServiceNow to pull in data which are not getting Normalized so that in next batch run those data gets Normalized for future.

Reconciliation won't be affected even if there are no Normalized Product in short.

Hope this help. Please mark the answer as helpful/correct based on impact.

Thanks for the response and details, the second one is clear.

For part 1- that still does not address the problem of removing manual efforts probably at this time.

Thanks, Aditya
