Hello,
I would first like to state I am very new to Software asset management. Our Software Coordinator left the company and I am trying to get a crash course in to Software asset management. We do not have SAMPRO and are Madrid. We manually have to set up our software models. So my question is this. Is it possible to change the name of a Software model and if doing so what impact would it have?
For example We have a software model called MS Visio Pro. It is linked to a catalog item for users to select and order. With out going into a lot of details I have been asked to change the name on the catalog item to just Visio Pro.
So if I change the software model from MS Visio Pro to Visio Pro and then go in to the discovery models and change them from MS Visio Pro to Visio Pro will this cause any issues?

You can change the name of the catalog item to be anything without changing the Software model.
In the picture below of a software model, you will notice I changed the Catalog Item Name. Now the custom came will show up in the catalog, but it will order the standard software model name.

Brian, thank you for the information. However, I wasn't very clear. I should have stated with more explanation:
For example We have a software model called MS Visio Pro. It is linked to a catalog item for users to select and order on a Service Request form. With out going into a lot of details I have been asked to change the name on the catalog item to just Visio Pro. On the software model form we have ticked the "For SW product Catalog". When I look at the product catalog tab it is blank and I can't edit it.
In our Service Request we have a box where the user can select the software to add to the request. I would like these name to appear without the MS in front of the name. When a user try to search or Visio it's not found because it needs the MS in front. This is causing issues. One thing to note is I am not the ServiceNow Admin.
So I was hoping there was something I could do with out involving the SN Admin.

Good day Kim,
The SW Model name is managed by automation which utilizes the publisher, product, version, and edition to create the display name. You could, with the help of an Admin modify the automation to preclude certain attributes so the name is as you desire. However, it may be a better approach to have your users utilize the * (star) wildcard in the search box above your list. Searching on *Access should return all of the Microsoft Access versions available.
A mature Software Asset Management approach, however, would be to list just Microsoft Access as an individual catalog item. Then your SAM team could distribute the currently supported version approved by your computing standards committee. Allowing users to request older, unsupported software isn't a wise choice.
