Tenable.sc integration with MID Server

Hi,

When should I need to install MID Server during VR Tenable integration?

What do they mean by the "same environment"? I'm not sure about that.

Hi,

Roughly speaking, you always need a MID server to access resources internal to your organization (behind your firewall). You do not need a MID server to access resources outside your organization.

- Tenable.sc is "on-prem" i.e. an internal resource behind your firewall. (You need a MID server)

- Tenable.io is an external resource, NOT behind your firewall. (You do NOT need a MID server)

 Thank you for the clarification

Hi @Chris McDevitt
I want to ask mid server will be installed in which environment , where the scanner is placed or the environment where there is instance?

Hi,

As a general rule of thumb, you should place a MID server as logically close to the other hosts it will interact with. For example, a MID server should be in the same data center as the hosts it is communicating with.  In the case of Tenable.sc, lets take a look at the Tenable Architecture:

https://docs.tenable.com/security-center/Content/Architecture.htm

In the Tenable architecture diagram, a MID server would be placed near the "roll-up" / Organization / "Reporting" server at the top of the diagram.
