Exception Rules

We've created some exception rules to catch any new VIT's that come from from Exceptions that were already entered and approved, but it doesnt seem to catch new VIT's.   Should exception rules be catching anything new, or does it only apply to existing VITs?

Typically, exception rules should be able to:

  1. Apply to existing VIs/VITs: When an exception rule is created, it can be applied to existing records that meet the defined criteria.

  2. Catch new VIs/VITs: Exception rules should also be able to automatically apply to new VIs/VITs as they are created, provided that these new records meet the criteria defined in the exception rule.

If your exception rules are not catching new VITs, there could be several reasons:

  • Criteria Mismatch: The criteria defined in the exception rule may not match the attributes of the new VITs. It’s important to ensure that all the conditions set in the rule are accurate and encompass the new VITs you expect to catch.

  • Rule Order or Priority: If there are multiple exception rules, the order or priority in which they are evaluated may affect whether a particular rule is applied. A new VIT might be caught by a different rule that is evaluated first.

  • Rule Activation: The exception rule might not be active. Ensure that the rule is enabled.

  • Workflow/Process Issues: There might be a workflow or business rule that is interfering with the exception rule's operation.

  • System Errors or Bugs

To troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Review the Exception Rule Criteria: Make sure the conditions set in the rule accurately reflect the VITs you want to catch.

  2. Check Rule Activation: Confirm that the rule is active and set to run automatically.

  3. Examine Rule Order and Conflicts: Look at the order in which rules are processed to ensure there are no conflicts or overrides happening.

  4. Test with Known Data Create a test VIT that should be caught by the rule and see if the exception is applied as expected.

  5. Check Logs and System Errors
