Is the correlation ID only created by external software? Can I view it in incidents created interactively?

It's a field. You can add it to the form, or look at History and see it's value. Many applications push something to that field. Discovery apps, integration's, etc may push a correlation ID.

Can I use these fields to manually enter a correlation ID?

You could, not sure why you would manually enter something there. That field is the key, or coalesce field when syncing data. It's matching on the correlation id.

The incident is originating from a customer ticket management system. It's entered manually. I want to keep the external ticket ID for tracking and for generating reports.
