Knowledge article templates - applying to imported and existing articles

Hi guys,
I've created a few templates for the knowledge articles, and I'm wanting to ensure that they are being used across the organization when creating articles.
1. For imported articles such as word documents, is there a way we can apply the template automatically?
2. For existing articles, is there a way/tool to automatically convert the articles into a predefined template? We have thousands of articles, so I'd prefer not to do it manually.

Importing word articles are just creating the articles. No templates are applied when doing that.
