Sometimes you'll be asked to do 'admin' type tasks, such as:

  1. Check the CMDB CI to find inactive CI Owners so we can update them?

You may then think, ok I will write a background/fix script and print out all the sys_id's and then look to resolve them... but that's kinda gross.

It would be far more useful if you could run a script whenever required, and produce a nice table of results, or easily export to an XLS for someone else, rather than a random string of CSV's in a mess of log statements 😑

This is where Instance scan can help! Its not just for finding coding issues!

The best part is, you don't even need to write code!!! 😍

The table check... very simple.

The results, in a lovely table for future reference or export. 🤠

We found 1 CI, called Jobvite which failed the check of 'Inactive CI owners' so we can update that record with a new active CI owner.

Simples!

reusable, easily reportable, no code solution to a common problem.

Of course, you can use this to solve many other 'data integrity' issues.

Have a great day!
