Can I restore a backup of one instance to another?

Probably silly question, but we have cloned a heavily changed Dev environment over to Live. All is great, but we would like to now bring online a backup of the old Live into the Dev instance.
Has anyone done this and is there any things we need to look out for?

Hello Everyone,
Can someone help me and confirm if backup between two different version is possible for SNOW instance?
ie rollback from Yokohama to Washington patch via backup restore?

First, it's not SNOW; it's SN or ServiceNow.
Regarding backup and restore, it's better to log a ServiceNow support case, and the team will guide you through the process.
