Create new Variable Set directly in Acceptance to use it in Catalog Builder

I am seeking your opinion on the feasibility of creating new Variable Sets directly in our acceptance environment.

Please note that we operate across four ServiceNow environments: Development, Test, Acceptance, and Production. In Acceptance, we utilize Catalog Builder to build catalog items, and subsequently, the CD-... update sets are promoted to Production. Our aim is to work independently of any ServiceNow Developer.

Occasionally, we need to create a new Variable Set to use it in Catalog Builder. Our objective is to restrict the creation of catalog items solely to the acceptance environment, eliminating the necessity for development involvement. Once we create a new variable set in acceptance and use it in catalog items built with Catalog Builder, I am curious whether it becomes part of the CD-... update sets or if we need to promote it separately to ensure its availability in the Production environment.

I would appreciate your insights on the following:

a) Is it advisable to manage things like variable sets, regular expressions, categories ... in acceptance if they are not required in lower environments?

b) For newly created records such as variable sets or categories, will they automatically be included in the CD-... update sets, or is a separate promotion (via other update sets) necessary to bring them to the Production Environment?

Atul: Mate, dont build any thing new in upper environment, start from Dev only.

I would appreciate your insights on the following:

a) Is it advisable to manage things like variable sets, regular expressions, categories ... in acceptance if they are not required in lower environments?

Atul: Not recommended. Build from Dev instance only.

b) For newly created records such as variable sets or categories, will they automatically be included in the CD-... update sets, or is a separate promotion (via other update sets) necessary to bring them to the Production Environment?

Atul: Separate promotion from Dev --> Upper/ higher.
