Flexible visual task board: Losing/dissapearing custom columns

Hi, I created a flexible visual task board because I want my tasks to get added to the board automatically but I need custom columns to manage our WIP effectively. I created new columns, moved my cards around and everything was working fine. Each card was keeping a history of its movements from lane to lane as I would expect it to. PERFECT. until....

 I went into the information tab and changed the "Vertical Lane Field". To my dismay, after changing back to the original vertial lane selection (that I edited), all my custom columns were WIPED OUT, card movement history was lost, and all the cards returned to their default column.

 

This is a very big problem for me. I need to make sure that no one can accidentally "reset" all of our hard work. This seems like a major ServiceNow design flaw. Is there any way we can prevent this from happening?

 

Please note that all board users have admin access levels.

 

Any help would be grealy appreciated.
