How to execute a data source and verify the connection using script. ( Test load using Server Script

Hello Techies

I'm looking to find out a way of performing "Test Load of 20 Records" using a Background Script/Server script. I have tried all possible way but unable to find the way to verify the test connectivity or test loading the Datasource using a script. Any ideas would be appreciated.
