How to manage urgent task with agile board

Hi Community,

I have run into a problem. 

Currently the lane in the agile board is set according to the state of each story. I am looking for a way to highlight or prioritize an urgent task or unplanned task in agile board. I am aware of tags, however, it is not obvious enough. 

Could you please share your best practices? Thank you.

The best option which comes into my mind is creating a custom field on the task table and configure the board accordingly to reflect the urgency.

could you be more specific on how to configure after a custom field is created? 

We currently create a new choice of "Pause" in "state" field in story to visualize the story development is pending due to some reason. But it will not help to highlight or manage the unplanned.
