Under best practice, how do we record a VM in ServiceNow CMDB. Does it get classified as

1. an Asset or

2. CI or

3. Both?

For whichever the answer, can you explain the rationale? Thanks

To keep it simple I would say right answer might be 2 or 3.

It would be a Asset if it need for financial information

It would be a CI if it's something you configure and might need a change to make change the configuration.

since we are talking about a Virtual Machine, I rule out nr.1, I can't see how it can only be an Asset. But I hope you will have it as a CI. Then depending on how your financial structure looks like, it might be an asset as well.

this on a very basic level.
