Reference qualifier on ‘Document ID’ field type?

This post tells me how to use the "Document ID" but it does not show how to write a reference qualifier for it. 

How do I write a reference qualifier for the "Document ID" column?

There are posts out there for filtering out the table names but that is not what I am looking for.

The only thing I can find would be to customize the OOB document_selector UI page, but I would caution against this as it is used globally for any table/doc id combo in the system.
