As a ServiceNow Implementor or Administrator, you may be delegated a task on how to import data from a CSV file.

Transferring or data migration has been a practice for firms that are starting or using manual to semi-automated. Data can be coming from a third-party application and using an Excel file that has been maintained for several years.

Now with the presence of ServiceNow, a call for an ETL (Extract Transform Load) capability to be able to transport data from its old location.

One of the few examples here is Service Mapping. The necessity to upload a list of products and services to give a view and match them to the underlying infrastructure that supports it (CSDM - Common Service Data Model).

Drilling down: ServiceNow has the ability to visually match the corresponding fields from the source and directly to ServiceNow table.

Establishing controls and verification that only clean data is migrated. Filtering unwanted information and validates from mandatory fields. Extending quality and ensuring no duplicates are populated.

To further understand and learn the ServiceNow capabilities on importing data, I have created this visual presentation to give you a full understanding on how to easily migrate data in ServiceNow using import sets.
