Hello all,
I have a request to add a manual approver in case that the requestor's manager is on leave and cannot approve.
I'm using the Approval Coordinator for the manager approval and the manual approval.
But when adding the a manual approver and he approves it, the WF is not moving forward, is waiting for the manager's approval, even though I have set the Approval Coordinator to move forward at the first approval or rejection of any child approvals.
Any ideas of what am I missing?
Thank you for your help.

Actually, I think this would work (didn't test tough):
1. Remove the approval coordinator
2. Keep the manager approval as first activity
3. Add a manual approval activity after the manager approval
Now, your manager is off so you do the following:
- Press the "Edit" button on approvals related list to add an approval for selected user (make the edit button visible if not yet) and set state to "Requested"
- Cancel the manager approval manually
I expect the workflow moves ahead from manager activity to manual approver and waits there for the new manually added to be approved/rejected/cancelled.

Hi,
The issue here is that you need to add the Manual approval before executing the activity to check the manual approvals. If you add the manual approval before your approval coordinator, it should work, but if you add the manual approval when the approval coordinator is the current activity on your workflow, it won't.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

Hi Alejandro,
Thank you for your reply.
If the manual approve has no users added, it automatically approves and goes to the next activity.
Anyway, I tried your suggestion and it is still waiting for the manager's approval.

Hi,
I just want to show you a test that I'm doing on my personal instance, could be helpfull.
I have the approval coordinator after state is moved to Assess:
If I move to Assess state without adding the Manual Approver and then, being on Assess state, add the Manual Approval (Abraham Lincoln is the manual approver that I added) this is happening:
Also, at this point if I approve the Manual Approval that I added (Abraham Lincoln), the workflow would not move forward and it would wait for the manager approval:
This is because I added the Manual Approval after the Workflow checked for Manual Approvals, and there were not Manual Approvals, so, the result is 'skipped' not 'approved':
But, if I add the Manual Approver before move to Assess, this is happening:
And if I approve the Manual Approval, it will be approved and the workflow will move forward:
I think the solution is to force adding the Manual Approver before the workflow stops on the Approval Coordinator.
Hope it helps,
Thanks

Hi Alejandro,
I understand your approach. Unfortunately, my requirement is to add the manual approver "after" the manager's approval was triggered. So, it is not applicable for my case.
Thank you for you help anyway.
