What can knowledge_manager role do?

Can anyone help me understand what knowledge_manager role can do?

1. Can anyone tell me what knowledge_manager role can do?

2.What do you mean by administer knowledge bases?

 

I have seen the explanation of knowledge_manager role: "Can administer knowledge bases and request new knowledge bases for the knowledge_admin to approve"

I have tested with the user who have the knowledge_manager role and

found only access to the knowledge base which are available for the person.

And even when I click the knowledge base, all are grayed out.

Hi

You will need the "KB Manager" Role to be selected as a Manager in your screenshot. This is similar to be a "catalog Editor" (in Service Catalog), you will need to have the "Catalog Editor" Role.

Does that make sense to you?

I would like add few details to Kunal and Dirk's answer

Knowledge managers perform administrative functions for knowledge bases, they manage such as defining categories, pinning important articles, and approving changes to articles. Users selected as managers of a knowledge base receive this role automatically.

The Knowledge Manager Role Contains the ITIL Role Too:- 

it is the OOB Role given by Service Now.

The Reason being is that it can be arduous is to create a New Role but then you have to go to the KB acls and plug that in as a role that can Read, write, create etc Knowledge base articles, and this should keep the person in a silo and you can then reuse that role very easily later if more people need that. in Either case the person is still using a license to my knowledge- so if you feel the extra ITIL capabilities are Ok and not a security issue for your organization the easiest is just give ITIL.
