ServiceNow Approval flow Requirement – Escalation to Manager's Manager After 3 Days

Hi Team,

I have created a subflow for a specific catalog item and location. The requirement is that when an approval is sent to the caller's Line Manager, there are cases where the approval is not acted upon in a timely manner.

To address this, the business requirement is as follows:

  • If the Line Manager's approval remains pending for more than 3 days, an approval should also be sent to the Line Manager's Manager.
  • Once the escalation approval is triggered, either the Line Manager or the Line Manager's Manager should be able to approve the request.
  • As soon as one of them approves, the other pending approval should automatically be set to "No Longer Required."

I have implemented the attached subflow, but I am looking for guidance on the best way to achieve the final requirement where the remaining approval is automatically marked as No Longer Required once either approver approves.

Could anyone please help with the recommended approach?

Thank you.

Hello @Ria ,

Please check if the following steps are according to your flow:

Let's name Line Manager's approval -> L1 approval
Line Manager's Manager's approval  -> L2 approval

Step 1: Send L1 approval.

Step 2: Wait for Condition or Timer (3 Days)

If approval is still Requested after 3 days, proceed with L2 approval.

Step 3: Create L2 approval

Step 4: Wait until:
            L1 = Approved or
            L2 = Approved

Please mark this answer as helpful/correct.

Best regards,
Puru.

@pururavasin Could you please provide a screenshot of Step 4 and also let me know where the Wait Until option is available in Flow Designer and how it can be configured? This will help me understand how to add the wait condition correctly in the flow.
