Are you still sharing your vision and strategy using excel and PowerPoint tools? What happens if you need to change your roadmap? How can you update your plans and make sure all teams are aligned with that?

You can stop using hard to update tools and share your valuable vision and strategy with your organization with ServiceNow Roadmap Planning. We’ve introduced ServiceNow Roadmap Planning within the Alignment Planner Workspace last year, that provides top-down planning to align investments and teams to strategy. This tool enables you to easily create roadmaps for all your demands, epics, programs, projects, and other task types regardless of the work delivery method (traditional, Agile, or hybrid) and visualize and share your plans with other stakeholders for an outcome-driven roadmap. You can easily adjust your roadmaps if there is a change in the strategy and rest assured everyone in the organization will be informed and aligned to the new updates.

We made tremendous innovations in the Rome release. For more information, please check out this blog. As we grow our customer base we learn more and more about your challenges, and we strive in improving our existing products based on your feedback to ensure we meet your growing needs. Now for our November store release, we have new and exciting enhancements to share with you.

Below are some of the enhancements we are delivering in November:

Common planning items across different levels

We know 60% of organizations are using hybrid project management and have a mix of agile and traditional work items. And we know that one of the key benefits of using roadmaps is being able to communicate better with all stakeholders. That’s why we’ve developed common planning items so all users at any level of the organization can plan and track using the common planning items. For example, when product managers plan epics, portfolio managers can view and track these epics in their portfolios. Portfolio managers can also create epics within their plans and assign them to product managers. This enables a common planning language as organizations decompose work from strategy to the lowest work item.

Greater visibility with Roadmap Milestones

We know that milestones enable you to monitor work progress and deadlines and improve team collaboration and communication to deliver work on time and within budget. It also enables you to identify potential bottlenecks that would impact the subsequent dependencies that results in delays. So, we are all clear that milestones are a key component of a successful project, program, service, or product delivery.

With ServiceNow Roadmap planning, you can create and manage milestones at the work item level (project, demand, and epic) or at your planning organization levels such as launch events or key announcements. This capability enables you to have greater visibility to focus on your deliverables and sequence your work effectively. In the November release, you can do a milestone-only view as well, so you can understand all your milestones and plans accordingly.

Get up to speed on work status with Roadmap Tracking

Once you setup your milestones you want to make sure you are aware of the progress of your projects and epics. You can toggle into the tracking mode view to monitor the progress of work and get up to speed on status with green, yellow, and red visuals and percentage complete. Since the Alignment Planner Workspace supports both agile and traditional work in a single roadmap, the tracking capability is designed to normalize the status updates and show percentage completion. This is a very useful tool that supports hybrid project management. For example, an enterprise PMO can easily get status updates of their portfolio of a mix of projects and epics which enables them to take necessary corrective actions ahead of time. And they can easily communicate to other stakeholders if their work is moving forward as scheduled or not regardless of the delivery method.
