What is DPM?

ServiceNow module which pull information’s from service management, application portfolio management, project management and other modules combining all to provide end-to-end a holistic view of the products and services organisations offer.

Who are DPM Users?

Solutions Owners, Directors, Head of, VP, Applications/ Service Owners use DPM

Why DPM?

Users who own applications/Services, have no single place to view the complete health of services. To get details, users must speak to multiple experts, refer multiple applications and dashboards, and get the details, this will be too much time consuming and prone to manual errors. When something critical happens that impacts services, users often find out too late and can no longer support and influence a positive outcome.

Hence DPM allows users to visualize everything at one place.

  1. He can see what all Demands/Projects planned in pipeline that could impact Managers Services/Applications.
  2. He can see Operational Issues like Incidents and outages that got impacted Managers Services/Applications.
  3. He is also empowered to change the details of services or add new offerings directly through DPM, without depending on Admin

Plan

During the plan phase, programs and projects may be responsible for the delivery of new applications or services, including the underlying technical services that make up an application or suite of applications. During this process resources and budgets will be defined.

Other demands from sources such as continual service improvement will be identified and planned, either as a project or via a different mechanism.

Build

During the build phase, applications and services are defined. Change management may be utilized to provide control for elements of the build that could impact other applications and services.

Deliver & Run

Once a service is live, delivery items such as service requests, changes and continual improvement initiatives must be monitored and managed. As part of the run phase of the lifecycle, detection and correction through event and incident management will also take place.

Retire

During the retire stage change requests may be required to decommission elements of the service or application. A project may exist to support the retirement of the item, and other governance functions may also be used.

Implementation Approach?

Approach #1:

Start implementing DPM from the area your organization is strong, for example if your organization matured in Service Management then it will be good starting point to start gaining visibility through Service Management and leveraging to other matured areas

Approach #2:

Implement DPM as per organization strategy/goals. For example, as per goal your organization want to start implementing DPM from Project management instead of service management

Approach #3:

Implement DPM as per strong data foundation. For example, your organization have strong foundation and core data for Application portfolio management then this could be good starting point for one to start Implementing DPM from APM.
