A project template defines the basic structure of a project. Because projects often get repeated, templates enable you to create, save, and reuse project structure.
Project templates can include:
- Project tasks
- Subtasks
- Attachments
- Checklists
And other project information!
You can also modify existing templates, create projects from templates, and apply templates to empty projects. A project is considered empty when it does not contain any subtasks.
While I realize getting started with Project Templates can be confusing for first time admins, I thought I would break it down for you with some suggested practices for templates in PPM as well as answer some of your most burning questions.
Admin's Guide to Project Templates
Below you will find some great tips on how to use and configure project templates, some best practices and frequently asked questions on project templates
Your guide to Project Templates in PPM
In this guide I break down the elements of configuration within the template as well as provide some best practices for Project Template creation.
At a glance my 3 Best Practices include:
- Always configure the extra fields under the Elements in the Template Configuration Definition.
- Never Clear or Overwrite the Default Elements under configuration And Default Template under the template.
- Do not create template for bigger projects like having ~500 tasks (Applying Template performance will be slow).
