As promised in our June Last Thursdays with SPM session (Resource Management - Benefits and Best Practices), our August webinar showcased new resource management features with Erin Roberts, Senior Solution Consultant, and Chris Cannella, Senior Manager of Inbound Product Management. If you missed the webinar or would simply like to see it again, you can view the recording and all past episodes in our Last Thursdays with SPM playlist.

Chris opened with a discussion about our vision for Resource Management which includes a great user experience, smart assistance leading to more complete information for actionable data, and ensuring siloes are removed to make better staffing decisions. But, Chris didn’t just talk about future capabilities, he also showed us exciting new resource management functionality available now including:

  • Ability to view and resolve conflicts from Allocation Heatmap
  • Automatic updates to resource assignments as schedules change
  • Ability to restrict resource assignments to resource manager (minority use case)
  • Carry over of “resource assignments” from Demands to Projects

Additional areas of focus were the new Resource Management Workspace (coming in November) and the new Strategic Capacity Planning feature (available now). With Resource Management Workspace (which is replacing the Allocation Workbench), resource managers will have a one-stop shop to bring together work planning and resource scheduling. The workspace will provide project/product managers a view into who is doing what work, and decision-makers will be able to see the near-term impact of strategic choices. Capacity planning currently allows organizations to see whether they have enough resources to complete the work they have taken on, and will soon have access to iconography along with assisted decision-making.

Erin followed up with an exciting demo of Strategic Planning Workspace (SPW) and Capacity Planning. Viewers were shown how to prioritize and share roadmaps within SPW, in addition to drilling down to individual resource assignments. She demonstrated how Capacity Planning enables users to look at resources at the group, role or even skill level, and provides additional flexibility in making changes directly to planning items. -This functionality will show a visual representation of change in timeline to see downstream impacts of resource allocation.
