Coming off the tail of an exciting Knowledge 2023, June’s session of Last Thursdays with SPM featured Erin Roberts, Senior Solution Consultant, who delivered a comprehensive overview of Resource Management. We opened this month’s session with a conversation between Erin and co-host Debbra McGrath on the many challenges that Resource Management is trying to address, and ServiceNow’s solutions, including:
- Planning, execution, and tracking in a single solution
- Flexible work management method, allowing consolidation of resources
- Attribute-based resource management (new with next experience)
Next, Erin discussed the key steps in the resource management process, from building resource plans to managing changes. Within this process there are several more tactical decisions, and Erin took a deeper dive into calculating availability and timesheet management – highlighting the levels of details in the Resource Management capability.
As always, the webinar is never complete without a live look into a demo environment, and we weren’t about to disappoint this month. Erin demonstrated how users can design resource requests based on type of project and work and build out demand tasks before sending to resource managers. From the resource manager’s perspective, we saw how they have visibility into resource availability, resource requests, and drill-down insight into each of those requests. Erin then showed how out-of-the-box reporting creates even more flexibility for users regarding allocation and timesheet views.
Viewers got a sneak peek into planned release content as well, with planning structure updates that allow for resource plan views and tagging capabilities according to resource or group. A highly visual heatmap will also show if selected resources have availability before assigning to projects.
