Hello!
I am looking for guidance on using Project templates to create an Agile Project to manage our SN Platform upgrades and Patch installs.
We just created 2 Project Templates to manage the 2 types of SN upgrades I mentioned above. The Project Templates include 6 Agile Phases (Panning, Upgrade Dev, Upgrade Test, Testing, Go-No Go Decision, and Upgrade Production). Each of these Agile Phases contain the respective Stories (This is defined on the Story record in the Agile Phase field). The Stories all have an Epic defined. Ideally when we create the Project from the Template, the 6 Phases are created, the Stories are created and associated to the Phase, and the Epic is created and the Stories are associated with the Epic.
We have created a project Template Configuration Record for the Story table...
We just used both Templates to create a Project, one to manage out Utah Patch 9 upgrade (now in Progress) and one for the Vancouver Upgrade happening next month. When the Projects were created, the 6 Phases were created and all the Stories were created with the relevant data (Based on the respective Project template Task record configuration.
However, the Stories were not associated with the respective Agile Phase, nor the Epic. When I look at the Template Task records, I see the sysid of the record for Agile Phase and the Epic.
Here is what one of the Project Template Task records look like:
For the Project Phase, is it possible to link the Story to the Project phase that is being created in another Project Template Task using the Project Template or is this something that will need to be done manually?
For the Epic, we do not have a Template config for the Epic (rm_epic) table. I can create a Template config record for the rm_epic table and set the Parent table to Project (pm_project), however, there is no link element for "Project". So I am not sure how I would set that link up, unless I need to do it via the Story? Ideally, we would want the Project Template to create the Epic and then relate the Stories to the Epic.
Being new to this, I am not sure if this is possible, a recommended practice, or if it is just best to have the Stories and Phases created and then manually create the Epic and manually relate all the Stories to the Epic and respective Agile Phase? Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Also, please let me know if you need additional clarifying information.
Thanks in advance!
Jeremy

How did you get the Agile Phase created with the Project template?

Hi @Ryan S,
The Agile phase is just a Project Task. Going back through my steps, it appears it is carried over via the Story Project Template Config record I created. Here is a snapshot of the record with all the fields:
So, once I created the Agile Phase, and then a Story record and set the Agile Phase. It carried over. I do believe however, that while the Agile Phase task record comes across, the PM has to go through the Stories and set the Phase. I am not sure if that is a bug or if I configured something wrong. Yes, I just confirmed by creating a test project...The "Project phase" is empty for all the Stories.
The PM uses the List Edit feature to set the Phase...
Hopefully this helps.
