Assignment Group vs Resource Groups

Hi there -

I am trying to learn more about how assignment groups and resource groups work.   How is one different from the other?   I noticed that some Resource Groups show up as Assignment Groups, if I am not mistaken.   Any details someone could offer to help?

Thank you.

Assignment group and resource groups are one and the same. Both refers to record in sys_user_group table.

In order for an assignment group to be qualified as resource group (meaning - for the group to be available to chosen in resource plan form) it should have the role pps_resource associated with it.

You can find details about PPS Resource role here

  • The PPS Resource [pps_resource] role is introduced to differentiate PPS users from all other users in the system. Only users with the PPS Resource role are considered for resource planning, and only users or groups with the PPS Resource role appear in resource plans. By default, the PPS Resource role is added to the Project User [project_user] and Demand User [demand_user] roles.
