Our Demand Managers have a need to add a Demand "Task" or "Decision" to Demands and I have a couple questions.
1. I've read several docs; however, I'm still not sure which, Task or Decision, is best for our use case, can you please advise? Use case: Demand Manager has a Demand that they want the IT Security Team to review and make a "Security Assessment." The Demand Manager will (ad-hoc, not every Demand) add the Task or Decision, fill out the form (or, ideally, use a template), and submit. Then a notification would go to the IT Security group to review the Demand, make an assessment (make notes and say approved or denied), close it out, and a notification would go back to the Demand Manager saying that the Demand Task/Decision has been made.
2. Are we able to create templates so that way the Demand Manager doesn't have to type out the same info for the "Security Assessment" that goes to IT Security? In addition to the Security Assessment, we may want to add a Infrastructure Assessment Task/Decision that would use a separate template. When I toggle the templates bar on either the New Demand Decision form or New Demand Task form, I see a "Create New Template" form. Is that the best way to create templates for these things or is there a better/preferred way?
Thank you!

A demand task is for assigning arbitrary pieces of work to other people so that a demand can progress. This could be anything from doing documentation, to implementing certain controls, finding out extra info etc.
In my experience, a decision is usually used for record keeping of a high level decision that has been made as part of scoping or discussions about how to proceed with a demand. Generally, a decision record is logged after the decision has already been made as part of some discussion/steerco/meeting etc with applicable stakeholders, but this is not necessary.
Based on your use case, you could easily use either demand tasks or decisions to facilitate your process. Using decisions will require a bit more work as you will need to modify the form to add assignment group and work notes, as they do not provide a place to enter this info by default, but dmn_decision does extend task so the fields are there to use already.
Also neither decisions nor demand tasks have a proper approval workflow attached to them, you will need to create those yourself, along with the notifications.
Secondly, yes the way you described is easiest for making templates. When you create the template, make sure to set the User/Group fields in the top right so that the Demand Manager/s can see the template, by default they are only visible to you.

Luke, do you know how the list for selecting the 'Assigned To' value for a Decision task are populated? is there a specific role required for a user to be assigned a Decision within a Demand record?

Hey Kim,
I had the same question, but thougt about using RIDACs for processing the approvals by different commitees.
Did you implement the suggestion from Luke and what did you learn?
Please provide some advice from your experience.
Thanks and best regards,
René
