Financials on the SPW without Investment Funding

Hi all.
Based on the error messages I get when I try and configure the Financials service in the Strategic Planning Workspace, it seems you have to have Investment funding (entities etc.) in place before you can use it.

Is there a way round this?  I want customers who have their portfolio managers set their budgets manually on the portfolios, programs and projects to be able to see the month-by-month cost plan, actuals, etc. in the SPW, even if they're not managing their funding from buckets.

Hi @phil_bool_unifi ,

Hope you are doing fine.

What is the error?

You have not mentioned the error but I believe you are getting the error because one of the investment entities is set as "false" and not available in SPW -> Financials. Typically it is shown for Epics as it is not active.

Typically you have to make it true from the All -> Investment Funding -> Setup -> Investment Entities.

I don't know any other user facing way to enable this.

and by the way - after making this true you will do the way you have mentioned above, not the investment funding way - using the generic bucket etc..

If this is not something that you are facing then share the error.

Thank You!

Oh, you're right - I should've screenshot this before I added investments and entities.   Basically yes, the error is as you described.

My worry is that adopting the investment funding data seems to impact portfolio managers' ability to create budgets manually, but I guess that's something we can work round.

Sounds like our customers need to get used to using a generic bucket, then.

Hi @phil_bool_unifi ,

Great that suspected error is the error that you have experienced.

I would recommend you to try it out once because as a business user, it won't ask you to create a generic bucket.

Hope this would work. If my response helped, please mark it as correct response.

HAPPY DIWALI (It's a festival of lights and prosperity !!)

Hi @phil_bool_unifi , creating 'investment entities' doesn't mean that the users have to use 'Investment funding' UI to create budgets. The New financials experience uses the backend of Investment funding and requires this as a configuration. After this step, users can entirely work out of SPW financials for their financial planning and budgeting without having to create any funding buckets from Investment Funding.
