How are you using Project Tasks?

I'm very interested to learn how other organizations are using Project Tasks.

I would like to hear from everyone to know whether they are:

  • maintaining the overall project plan completely within ServiceNow, or
  • managing a select subset of tasks in ServiceNow

Thanks!

Hi Jason

Perhaps Anthony Okumura or someone else on the SN team can chime in on this as well. But I'll try to respond best I can!

You mention dates rolling up when you have the schedule type set to 'manual'. Can you be more specific? I've tested this manual setting heavily and the parent task didn't adopt the child task's updated dates even if it's beyond the parent task's original dates. Do you have other dependencies built in, etc.? Perhaps we can see if there is logic being triggered, or if there is a bug or something.

As for closing the parent task when the subtasks are all closed and it's set to manual.... I believe that's expected behavior (someone at SN can confirm this for me) and the way MS Project etc works - why wouldn't you want the parent task (your 'category') to close when all it's subtasks are completed? Is your team not using it like a standard project schedule and more like a laundry list? If you don't want the parent closed for a category, perhaps you can add a milestone or dummy 'confirmation' task to the end of that category?
