Issue with Cost Plan Calculation for Resource assignment 'Group'

Hi All,

When we are creating a 'Resource assignment' selecting a 'Group' under resource, the cost plan that is getting generated after clicking on 'Generate Labor Cost' is creating cost plan but looks like it is taking the default rate of $50/hours.

We have defined the hourly rate & Average Daily FTE/Hours/Person Days on the group level but still it is not picking that up:

Could anyone please suggest what configuration need to setup so that it cost plan is calculated based on the Group level defined hours? Thank you

The 'Unit Cost' does not determine the cost of the resource.   If you're manually changing or entering that, that will not override the resource cost, which is calculated via your Rate Model, or if you haven't set one, by the cost assigned to the resource by group or by role.  If none of those is present, then the resource cost will be set by the default resource rate (which is what seems to be happening).

If you want to configure resource costs to be calculated by group, then access the group records you're using and select the 'Resource manager' view.  You'll be able to see an Hourly Rate currency field.  Populate this.  Then, making sure there is no rate model or manually entered rate on the cost plan, that group will be used.

Hi @phil_bool_unifi ,

Thanks for the response. I have created a Resource assignment entering the Group as Business analyst and effort 2 hours, that's it. Then navigated to Financials and clicked on 'Generate Labor Cost'

The Hourly rate in group is defined as below:

There is no rate model at the moment.
It created the below Cost Plan:

Could you please help me understand what I am doing wrong here? Thank you.

Okay, that's very interesting.  I opened a PDI, and tried to replicate what you were seeing, and the calculation seemed to work correctly for me.  I set the hourly rate of two groups to be very different, then created resource assignments for each one, using the 'Generate Labor Costs' UI Action to refresh after each one.  In each case, the amount calculated reflected the different hourly rate I'd entered, although it was sometimes hard to confirm, because the actual allocation to the users was different to the amount requested.
I did think of a couple of things you might want to check:
You say you created the resource plan directly on the Project Workspace.  I notice, in that UI, the platform tries to encourage you to select a specific user.  Do you have the same issue if you create the Resource Assignment from the Project record?  This may not be the solution, but it might help us understand more.
I'm presuming if you change the default resource rate and create this resource assignment again, the cost of this test resource assignment would change?  That would just prove it's using that default value, not getting a value from elsewhere.

I'll come back if I spot anything in the meantime.

Hi @phil_bool_unifi , Thanks for checking this, really appreciate it.

I am creating 'Resource Assignment' from scratch from the Planning Workspace and not from the platform level:

1. Opened the Planning section and clicked on one of the 'Project Task' which opened the below

2. Clicked on 'Add Resource' action and selected a group in the Resource field, as this field is showing both groups + resource(selected only one group and provided Effort as 6

Only one message came up stating 'Resource assignments will be created to all group members of Business Analysts who have the group as a Primary Resource Group'

The hours are distributed now to the members of that group.

2. Now, I will navigate to financial and click on 'Generate Labor cost'

1 Cost Plan got created:

Now trying to create Resource assignment from Project, Changed the Assignment type to group and provided the below details:

Then clicked on Related link: Generate labor cost.. which resulted same as below:

I went back to the group and updated the hourly rate and the resource effort to 8 and clicked on Generate Labor cost again:

Updated the default value to 60, and creating again:
Provided effort as 6 hours and now it created with 360

So, it is coming from default only.

Not sure what is going wrong here why it is not picking up the group defined hourly rate 🙁
