Pros and cons of setting up Org Hierarchy for multi-level org to enable internal management reporting? Which model did you select?
- Nested Business Units via parent-child relationships (how to enable reporting to pull a report on e.g. "show all projects that are part of parent business unit and associated child business units"
- a combination of Department-Business Units relationship with hierarchy in both or one table;
- three data points: Business Unit-Department-Location?

Hi,
We use:
1) Parent BU - Child BU relationships
2) Department are linked to BU's.
3) Department are linked to Location and Location also have relation with BU's.
Thanks,
Ashutosh

1) how do you report on BUs" e.g. show me all records (projects) that belong to BU1 - in out of the box setup, reporting does not pull children BUs with the parent (e.g. BU1.1, BU 1.1.1 would not be returned)
2) how did you distinguish what is BU vs what is Department? Is Department the lowest level of hierarchy? did you ever consider going with just BUs and skipping departments so hierarchy is clear and maintained within same table?
3) locations on BUs - was this configuration?
thank you!

Hi,
1) how do you report on BUs" e.g. show me all records (projects) that belong to BU1 - in out of the box setup, reporting does not pull children BUs with the parent (e.g. BU1.1, BU 1.1.1 would not be returned) I understand. We dot walk the parent field on the Business unit linked with project as below
2) how did you distinguish what is BU vs what is Department? Is Department the lowest level of hierarchy? did you ever consider going with just BUs and skipping departments so hierarchy is clear and maintained within same table?
Business Unit can have departments in it. For example we have Insurance domain and Pension domain. This are BU for us and in this BU We have seperate departments. If you want ask me i will keep BU - Department - Groups like this. Department mapped with Location and BU mapped with location.
3) locations on BUs - was this configuration? We configured it OOB it is not available. We used company location field.
Thanks,
Ashutosh

Hi there, how did you achieve 3)? I am also interested in relating locations to BUs but it looks like OOB, the org hierarchy (Company > BU > Dept) is separate to the location hierarchy (E.g Region > Building)
