Hi,
I am studying Resource Management and I have added the Resource Plan related list to project task form (Working with Resource Plans - ServiceNow Wiki).
First: I am having a little bit difficulties or confusion in trying to understand the difference between resource group, user group (or it is just a different view?) and assign to group (what does it mean: associate to task?).
Second: who can/should approve the resource plan (who is the resource manager)?
Thanks for any clear descriptions,
Skender

Hi Skender - I don't see a Resource group or a User group but generally groups in ServiceNow refer to the Groups in the Group [sys_user_group] table. If you are referring to the Group resource / User resource field on a Resource Plan (it changes based on the selection made in the Resource type field). The Group resource will allow you to select a Group and then display all the availability for the Users in that Group in the Resource Availability Calendar (viewed from the View resource availability related link) for the Resource Plan. The User resource allows you to just pick a specific user.
The Assignment group field generally appears on some sort of Task (Demand, Project Task, Incident, ...) and should NOT be on a Resource Plan. This field allows the assignment of a Group so that the Task can appear under the Service Desk > My Groups Work module so that all kinds of Tasks that are assigned to a logged in user's groups appear in the same place.
If you are a using Resource Plans then you will rely on the Resource Plan for allocation and then a resource would go to the Resource > Resources > My Calendar to view their assigned work by the hour. They could then use the Assigned to field on a task to put the task in their Service Desk > My Work module or they could just work directly from the My Calendar.
Usually a Resource Manager is the person who is the direct manager of the resources in the group that you have selected. The general process from a project management perspective is for a project or a demand manager to be the Resource Requester and for the manager of those resources to be the Resource Manager to allocated and approve the Resource Plans.
This video give a pretty good overview if you want to check it out...Getting Started with ServiceNow Resource Management - YouTube
Please reply with any questions on anything that is unclear. I am on vaca until 4/6 but will probably be on a bit between now and then plus we others than can answer.

Hi Alex,
Thank you so much for the explanation.
So, as soon I understood from your reply, Assign To has to do more with Service Desk purposes for the single user and not so much with the resource allocation in a plan.
My discussion started when I was asked from my client how to display or how do I know the resources allocated to a project task (from Project Management module)?
But now I am sure that I have applied the correct solution, using Resource Management.
Thanks also for sharing the video!
Cheers,
Skender
