Scrum Teams vs Work Groups

So it looks like the SDLC / Project areas of the tool have a concept called "teams", which for the life of me looks exactly like Assignment Groups but without the roles.

Much of the OOB sprint planning seems to hinge on that Team concept but I can't understand what team is bringing to the table that normal groups wouldn't.

Could someone explain it to me?

I contend that there's nothing about the concept of Team that can't be facilitated with Groups (or an extension to Group).

Throughout the rest of the platform there are two ideas of assignment.   "My work", which I already know is assignedto = me.   But there's also the concept of "our" work.   So for every task type in the system:   project, project task, change, change task, incident, problem, financials, facilities, hr request, hr task, marketing, approval groups, everything ... EVERYTHING can hook into the concept of "our" work in a unified fashion.   Its the central way we can manage modules, reports, notifications, and hundreds of other customizations.

.... except for that one task type that does it a completely different way.

Hi guys: I'm in the process of activating Agile and am confused byTeams vs Assignment groups. I stumbled upon this community thread. In Helsinki, we can create 'Agile Team' type of assignment groups. That sounds like Team to me, but the Agile functionality still requires you to use Team. Why do we still need Team if we have 'Agile Team' type of assignment groups? Greatly appreciate your feedback! Rita

Hi Rita,

Can you please let me know what plug-in are you trying to activate? Is it Agile Development module or you plan to use the Project-Agile functionality ( ability to create agile phase, sprints within a project)?

Thanks

PM, Project Portfolio Suite

Continuation to previous one..if it is Project-Agile functionality functionality there is no need to create a team anymore. If it is Agile Development plug-in, you will be required to create a Release Team.

Hi Pradeep: I activated the Project Portfolio Suite in subinstance, which opened up Agile on both scrum and project modules. I see that teams are highlighted for agile and groups for project. Take Scrum release as an e.g. It has both team and assignment group. So I have to create both and assign both. This doesn't make sense. Why should we have to setup both. Why can't it be assignment groups across? Not sure what I'm missing. Thanks for your help. Rita
