Time sheet approval delegation

Hi All,

We have user's manager as time card approver in time sheet policies.

Since time sheet / Time card approvals don't use approval records, how could you get delegate to approve time cards?

Even if we set up a delegate for the manager, the delegate can't approve in his behalf (unless we give time card admin role), do you have any work around this?

How is this being managed at other organisations?

Since, we are approaching holiday period, this would be a headache for us as we would like to ensure time cards are approved timely.

Thank you.

Vishal Shah

Since no mechanism exists for temporary role assignment based on delegation, there's no OOB way to do this automatically.
The one place I've encountered the same question, they were satisfied with PMO managing manually:  IE, someone else with the same role in the PMO team would step in to approve / reject.

Thanks Robert, that's exactly how we are doing it at the moment. Having said this it creates confusion since Manager going on leave use delegation rights to assign (Change approval, catalog approvals, incident assignments etc.) deputy but they can't do for time cards and time sheets. it is very inconsistent within the same platform against virtue of simplifying and standardizing.

I think i will raise this as product enhancement request.

Yeah... delegation in real life has way more complexity than is modeled in ServiceNow at the moment.  I've played with making seriously custom solutions there, but I wonder if it would be too unwieldy to use.

The main issue is that people don't usually have a single delegate:
- delegate my change approvals here
- delegate my time card approvals there
- delegate my sla notifications somewhere else.
