Hi Folks,

I am trying understand the difference between Capacity planner and allocation workbench , is there a specific functionality in capacity planner that cannot be done from allocation workbench ? as both can be used to view capacity and confirm and allocate resources to resource plans . I cannot find anything in docs that differentiates there usage and purpose.

Hi, Capacity planning -according to docs & my understanding- "provides resource managers with a comprehensive view of capacity, allocations, and utilization of resources. As a resource manager, you can use it to review resource capacity and existing allocations and then confirm resources to a demand or project"

It operates on the level of (multiple) resource plans and gives you a higher level of overview of your capacity and utilization situation. You can approve Resource plans, but you don't assign single dedicated resources, as you can with the allocation workbench.

The allocation workbench is more precise, and allows to work on different status of resource requests (Planning, Requested, Confirmed, Allocated, ....). Allocation workbench shows -using the resource finder- detailed resource information, down to individual resource/person level, with availability (broken down to requested, confirmed, and allocated hours per resource) and enables you to search for the right resources based e.g. on location, skills and more...
