I have created 27 KB articles and thought they were being added into my current update set in our test instance. However, when I was done and set the update set state to "Completed", there was not one single article in the set. Can KB articles not be added into an update set the way other changes are?

apparently they aren't captured in update sets. you could try this import articles, article I came across. https://support.servicenow.com/kb?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0830666
