CSA and CIS certificate expiration

Is it true that all existing CSA and CIS certifications expired in December 2017 unless they were renewed? Also, do certifications have to be renewed every other release going forward?

Hi Tanay,

Here is the response I got when inquiring with training@servicenow.com

Please note that there is a new recertification process in place. To find out more you can go to the training website (https://www.servicenow.com/services/training-and-certification.html).

Any exam taken prior to January 1, 2017 is now expiring and you will need retake your certification exam by 31 March 2018 (extended date) to stay certified.

If you were accredited, you need to switch to certification by 1 July 2018.

Please not that Certification Validity is current Release, +1.

Example: Exams taken January 1 — Sept 30, 2017 are on Istanbul and you will need to re-certify on Kingston. Any exam taken on or after October 1, 2017 is on Jakarta and you will need to re-certify on London.

So basically if you want to keep up with having all certifications ServiceNow has to offer, get ready to take 8+ certification exams every year.

Hi Tanay,

if you are a ServiceNow partner and want your certification to be recognised for the partnership agreement, then yes, you need to be re-certified before 31 March 2018 (the deadline was recently extended). As you may guess, this re-certification process is widely unpopular.

If you are not a partner, then my advice is not to bother with the re-certification process. The certifications themselves have no expiration dates on the certificate.

The CIS certifications are targeted for specialist working for official ServiceNow Partners.

Yet, don't let that stop you. From my point of view CIS certifications have two mains uses:

  1. As an individual, they will put you ahead of the competition when you are looking for a new job.
  2. As a ServiceNow Partner, they are required by ServiceNow to weight your company against the competition and advise new customers to contact you.

When I passed my old CIS, six years ago, I was not a partner. That did not stop me.

There is one good reason yet to prepare for the new non-ITSM CIS certs: They covers news topics!
