This post shares learning notes from troubleshooting lab validation issues encountered while working through the Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich) course. It focuses on common error messages you may encounter if the validation fails.
The aim of this task is to provide you with hands-on experience of the concepts covered in the Next Experience, Navigation, and Access Lesson content including:
- Impersonating another user
- Pinning a menu and creating a favorite
- Identifying which modules and applications you have access to
Below are some of the error messages that may be presented when trying to validate the task
- Did you perform these tasks as Platform User [platform.user], make sure you are not Admin user?
This error is linked to steps 1-4 in the task instructions. You need to ensure you are impersonating the correct user before completing any of the other steps. Click on the 'User menu' in the top right-hand corner of the screen and double check that you are showing as the user outlined in the instructions.
Tip: If the avatar picture is surrounded by a red outline and an eye icon, this is a quick indication that you are currently impersonating another user. - Did you successfully pin the 'All' menu and create a favorite for Self-Service > Knowledge?
This error relates to steps 5-7 in the instructions. The simulator is looking for an exact match - while you may not personally choose to pin the menu, you need to for the purposes of this task.
You also need to create a favorite for the 'Knowledge' module that appears under 'Self-Service'. - Are you sure you favorited the Knowledge MODULE and NOT the homepage or article itself?
This action is completed during steps 5-7 however the error itself refers specifically to step 7.
Tip: If you search for 'Knowledge', there are two places that it appears - double check you have favorited the correct one.
These notes reflect my experience of troubleshooting lab validation errors while working through the task. As a Junior Developer, documenting these has helped me reinforce my understanding, and I hope it helps other learners avoid or resolve similar validation issues. If you've encountered additional errors, feel free to comment and share them below.
