[Lab Validation Notes] Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich): Tasks in the Platform

This post shares learning notes from troubleshooting lab validation issues encountered while working through the Tasks in the Platform module in the Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich) course. It focuses on common error messages you may encounter if the validation fails.

 

Note: Some labs assume you are continuing from previous modules and still impersonating Platform User, even if this is not explicitly stated in the task instructions.

 

The aim of this task is to provide you with hands-on experience of the concepts covered in the Tasks in the Platform Lesson content including:

  • Creating a new Visual Task Board (VTB)
  • Renaming the VTB and lane names
  • Menu navigation
  • Adding items to a VTB

Below are some of the error messages that may be presented when trying to validate the task

 

  1. Was a VTB created for My Requests?
    This error is linked to steps 1-3 and the first bullet point of step 4 in the task instructions. Make sure you select the correct Visual Task Board type and then rename it to "My Requests".

  2. Was a VTB Lane renamed to Problem?
    This error is specific to the second bullet point of step 4 in the task instructions. Make sure you renamed the lane and don' have any spelling mistakes.

    From testing, it appears that it doesn't matter which lane you rename - validation only checks that a lane exists with the specified name. I would recommend keeping the lanes in order though so that you can compare your results to the provided screenshot.

  3. Was a VTB Lane renamed to Incident?
    This follows the same behaviour as above - validation is checking the new lane name, not the original name.

  4. Was a VTB Lane renamed to Change?
    This follows the same behaviour as above - validation is checking the new lane name, not the original name.

  5. From the Problem record submitted in a previous activity, were you able to add it to the My Requests VTB?
    As part of the Forms task, you should have created a Problem record and created a favorite. This is the Problem record you need to add to your VTB. If you skipped the Forms module, I recommend completing it first so that you have the required PRB record.

    Once added, return to the VTB and double check that it has been added to the Problem lane (this happened by default for me).

 

These notes reflect my experience troubleshooting lab validation errors while working through this task and form part of a series documenting common lab validation issues encountered while completing the Welcome to ServiceNow (Zurich) course. As I continue building my skills on the ServiceNow platform, I hope these posts help other learners navigate similar challenges.
