New to the Admin Journey

Good Morning All,

I'm beginngin my journey with an end-goal of being a ServiceNow admin. I have about 6 years of experience with ServiceNow from a user perspective and am comfortable with the platform in general, though I understand that there is still much to learn.

My question for you all is related to administration. In your experience, is the ServiceNow learning journey enough or are there outside skills or resources I should utilize as well? From what I have gathered so far [I think] it might be helpful to understand HTML and JavaScript. If so, should I try to master these? Are there any recommendations in general about what I should also learn for this role?

Any help and feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@AGX-07 Welcome to the community, glad to know that you are transitioning from a user role to a system administrator role. I recommend you to register on https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp and enroll for System administrator journey https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp/en/pages/journey-overview?id=journey_overview&journey_id=55f7.... Once you are comfortable with System Administrator role, you can choose to enroll for other career journeys listed here https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp/en/pages/career-journey?id=journey

HTML and Javascript is nice to have from a system admins perspective but knowledge of this tech stack becomes a requisite if you wish to become an application developer or an implementer in the future.

Hope this helps.

Hi @AGX-07

Atul: Now learning is good but you will get basic knowledge from that and my recommendation follow other ways like YouTube channels where users put alot technical content as well ( Including me)

From what I have gathered so far [I think] it might be helpful to understand HTML and JavaScript. If so, should I try to master these? Are there any recommendations in general about what I should also learn for this role?

Atul:

1. You can learn scripting via Now Learning.

2. Chuck has a playlist for Javascript which is good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62Nabpb94Jw&list=PL3rNcyAiDYK2_87aRvXEmAyD8M9DARVGK

3. If you can get the book online "Mastering ServiceNow Scripting" by Packet Publisher.

4. My videos are also there
