A MID (Management, Instrumentation, and Discovery) Server is a Java application that runs as a Windows service or UNIX/Linux daemon on a server in a customer network. Its purpose in a ServiceNow environment is to facilitate communication and the movement of data between a ServiceNow instance and external applications, data sources, and services in a customer network. The MID Server is core to many successful implementations as it is used with several ServiceNow products such as Discovery, Service Mapping, Integration Hub, Orchestration, Cloud Provisioning and Governance, Event Management, and Operational Intelligence and can provide support for integrations with LDAP, Active Directory, and 3rd party integrations using SOAP or REST.
