What is my next step?

At first, I was quite shocked at the depth of this software.  After going through the initial classes and earning the Welcome to Service Now Micro Cert,  I see that this software is extremely powerful and capable of IT support.  Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I need to study and certify to become a level 1 help desk associate?

Hi @Andrewg945

Welcome to the ServiceNow community!

As a ServiceNow trainer, I'm excited to share my thoughts with you. It's great that you've completed the Micro-certifications, but the reality is that the market demands a broader skill set. Employers are looking for professionals who have experience with a range of modules, so it's essential to expand your knowledge and add more products to your portfolio. Consider focusing on areas like ITSM, GRC, HRSD, CSM, or SecOps.

At the moment, the training is free, which is a fantastic opportunity. However, the real challenge lies in gaining hands-on experience. To tackle this, the community is an excellent place to start. Dedicate at least 1-2 hours a day to engage with the community—read what others are asking and contribute your responses. Over time, your skills will improve, and you'll gain more confidence.

Additionally, mastering scripting is crucial if you’re aiming to become a developer. There are plenty of courses and exercises available on developer.servicenow\.com to practice and strengthen your scripting skills. This will help you build a solid portfolio.

You can begin with the CSA certification and then decide where you'd like to go next. Whether you're interested in development, pursuing a role as a Business Analyst, Change Manager, or Project Manager, the foundation is essential. As long as your roots are solid, you'll have the flexibility to choose any domain.

If you are looking to become a level 1 help desk associate then I would recommend the Support Specialist Career Journey in terms of Knowledge or trainings (at least the Associate and if possible Practitioner level). That complemented with a CSA (Certified System Administrator) mainline certification should suffice. Again it is a continuous journey where you learn as you work and engage more as others mentioned. And the learning platform also provides training instances for each of the modules as well to practice the lab exercises or in general.

Thank you.  This sounds very good and will be the road to travel for me.  While I like help desk and already do so much of that work,  I have interests in networking,  CompTIA A+,    And Network+,  and CCNA.   I also do some network repair and installation in the field too.  Thank you for your informative response.   ServiceNow is a superb platform!   I’m enjoying the beginning of my journey.  Just wish I had some part time work to go with it.   Thanks again.
