what is the difference between "Reviewed and Merged" and "Reviewed and Reverted" during version upgrade?

Dear All,

I feel very confuse for between "Reviewed and Merged" and "Reviewed and Reverted" during version upgrade?

System shows me there are no differences between base system and customised. Then i need to click "revert to base system" or "save Merge" or "reviewed and retained" on previous page?

Thanks.

You can find some documentation here: https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/kingston-platform-administration/page/customer-support/task/t_Res...

A bit more explanation:

  • "Reviewed and Merged" means you (manually) update your version based on a combination of the base system and your customization. On a next upgrade, this object will again be skipped since it's still a customization
  • "Reviewed and Reverted" means you removed your customization and reverted the object to the base system, you're taking the new version from the upgrade. On a next upgrade, this will automatically updated, since it's no longer a customization
  • "Reviewed and Retained" means you completely ignore the base system and keep your customization. It will be skipped again on a next upgrade.

If the "resolve conflicts" screen shows no difference that usually means you have changed a field value but then changed it back to the standard value. but it will remain marked as customized, since you did change it.

In this case it's best to  use the "Revert to base system", since ServiceNow will then take the base object and it will no longer be considered a customization, so on the next upgrade it will be automatically updated.

Hi,

Is this the Upgrade details record "Resolution status" values you are asking about?

These flags would be to track what action you have taken when you reviewed the individual records (usually the skipped ones) as part of the upgrade process.

When you actually review skipped records, you have UI actions to "Review conflicts" or "Revert to Base system" to take the desired action with the skipped record, if for example you wish to keep your own (possibly customized) version of the given record, or you want to revert it to the version coming with the upgrade or you want to merge (e.g. revert only some fields of the given record).

"Use Resolution Status to keep track of whether the skipped record was reviewed and ignored, retained in its customized form, or reverted to the base system version. "

Based on that you can set the "Resolution status" as below - these would not trigger the action, just indicate what you have done :

Reviewed and Merged - is to capture that you have reviewed the record and merged some fields of your record version with the fields brought by the upgrade

Reviewed and Retained - is to capture that you reviewed but retained your version of the record and did not override it with the version offered by the upgrade

Reviewed and Reverted - is to capture that you have reverted the given record to the version coming with the upgrade and save the upgrade detail record with this information so when you later go back to the Upgrade details record you know what action you have taken.

Mark it Correct or Helpful if it works.

Warm regards,

Priyanka
